RopeFest is the annual celebration of all things rope, hosted by the wonderful R&W Rope company! It’s a full day of exciting activities, demonstrations of splicing and tree climbing, and hands-on experiences for rope enthusiasts, climbers and families for a day of learning and community. SouthCoast ArtWeek Returns!
It’s spring and SouthCoast ArtWeek is back and bigger than ever! There are dozens of interactive (mostly free) events that’ll appeal to you. Take a look at the whole lineup HERE and here are a couple of examples to whet your appetite:
Experience a cool public art initiative when Fall River illuminates it’s We Here mural. This lively event – featuring soup, bevies and music – is the first a larger vision to illuminate Fall River’s hillsides, public art, and historic architecture—using creative placemaking to bring energy, beauty, and civic pride to the city. Free. May 8 at 8 pm. More here.
The Spindle City Arts Trolley Tour is a free, multi-stop arts experience connecting some of Fall River’s most vibrant cultural spaces for one unforgettable day. Hop on and off the trolley as it travels between galleries, studios, food districts, and creative hubs! Free. May 16 from 10 to 4. More here.
4. Run for Mothers!
Join thousands celebrating Mother’s Day at the 16th annual Mother’s Day 5K, benefiting the South Coast Women’s Fund. The 5K follows a scenic oceanfront route before finishing in a lively post-race celebration at Cisco Brewers in New Bedford. $40 for adults. Free for kids run. May 10 at 10 am. More here.
The Community Boating Center's gala is the signature event that tells you summer is coming!! Guests will enjoy dinner, dancing, and a silent auction while celebrating the start of the sailing season to support programs that use boating as a platform for youth development. May 9 from 6 to 10 pm. More here.
Join the Sippican Land Trust for a long walk to a 19th century cellar hole that once was the home of Solomon Smith a formerly enslaved person. The walk will be 4-5 miles on basic forest paths, through less used trails so that you will discover some of Marion’s least fragmented forest habitat. Free. May 9 at 9:30 am. More here.
7. Open Water Swim Curious?
The Buzzards Bay Coalition is holding an open water swim clinic for those who are training for the annual Buzzards Bay Swim AND for those who are curious about it. Join them to jump in the water, get some tips from our experienced swim coach. If you decide to join the iconic June Buzzards Bay Swim with hundreds of others, the Coalition will be there to help you with registration. Free. 10 to 11:30 am. Onset Beach. More here.
8. Discover the Lifesaving Station
Our next walking book tour brings us to the Westport Point Lifesaving Station where we’ll delve into the history and characters of the station and the area surrounding it. As always, there’s no need to have read the book and we’ll include a few surprises. Free. May 30 at 2:00. Register here.
