Each month, we visit a new food spot thanks to the folks at Surprenant, Beneski & Nunes, an estate & elder planning law firm who like to shine a spotlight on local gems of the South Coast, especially small businesses that are family-run just like their own law firm.
Lovers Bakery is a revelation. Open the doors and you’re assaulted with the delicious smell of butter and baking. Then, the visuals of a pastry case filled with things you can’t decide upon. So you buy multiples.
They opened in December 2025 and there’s a steady stream of customers, even at odd mid-morning times.
That’s because of the love.
“We fell in love with cooking, we fell in love with each other. There’s love in everything we do,” says Allie Trojano who owns the bakery with partner Jake Medearis.
In the 11 years since they graduated from culinary school, Allie has worked at bakeries and high end restaurants. She prefers the bakery life. What does that mean? Early mornings, pastries, cakes. That’s her jam (literally).
They have their staple menu items (croissants the size of dinner plates, the browned butter chocolate chip cookie, gooey cinnamon buns). Otherwise, everything changes every day. Allie wakes up and decides what will be on the menu that day. Sometimes it’s inspired by things customers have said, sometimes it’ll come to her in a dream, sometimes she just misses a particular special. Maybe you’ll walk in to find strawberry pop-tarts or dunkaroo cupcakes.
When they met in culinary school, Jake was drawn to the other side of the kitchen, creating dinners. But he’s happy with the move to pastries: “I traded my knife in for a bowl and a whisk and I don’t know if I could go back.”
His favorite part: the daily interactions with his customers. “How was the vacation? How’s your family?” He loves that he really gets to know the folks who come through. He likes that they appreciate that he and Allie make all the food themselves, that personal connection they share. He loves creating their from-scratch coffee drinks -- no Monin syrups for them, it's all house made. People drive for miles to sip their Burnt Honey and Pistachio Vibes coffee.
Speaking of love, you want to be a hero at work? Bring in a box of treats from Lovers Bakery. Here’s the feedback I heard:
- “That might be the best cookie I’ve ever had! For real. I loved the salty taste” (on the brown butter chocolate chip cookie)
- “I liked the nostalgia factor of the pop tarts. It was a happy surprise to see those.”
- “One bite brought me right back to some good memories of childhood – indulging in a Little Debbie oatmeal cream pie. But this one is delicious and I assume without all the preservatives that those Little Debbie’s had. The vanilla cream was delightful! Not too sweet and a nice whipped texture. Loved it!”

The ‘80s had such a zeitgeist. In Wareham, it is encapsulated beautifully in RWND Restaurant & Arcade which has great food, fun drinks and a throwback atmosphere.
Happy to see Lovers Bakery on Southcoast Almanac. This place is fantastic and truly the pastries rival that of The Baker!! Their variety is good, their pastries are HUGE!!! You are getting your money’s worth. They are very friendly, always smiling and pleasant.
