Surprenant & Beneski, P.C. has been happily supporting local food spots since 2020 by spotlighting a new one each month. As a family business itself that prides itself on community work, the estate planning and elder law firm loves spotlighting other family businesses, especially ones like the Brewhouse District which customizes everything to their customers' needs, even if that means preparing a tuna sandwich at 9 am.
Move over Chippi! There’s a new contender in the region gunning for the title of most iconic South Coast coffee drink.
Over in Fall River, the recently opened Brewhouse District introduced us to their Brewhouse Bomb. The recipe is top secret – as is the Chippi's recipe at Mirasol's Cafe– but we can tell you it starts with a coffee based drink that is made in-house daily. Then, just before serving, they put a shot of Nitro coffee in every serving just before serving. “That’s the bomb,” says Nick. “We were just trying to brainstorm a great tasting ice coffee drink that was flavorful and creamy. This is what we came up with.”
It’s not the only fun thing that Brewhouse is cooking up. They’ve got a full breakfast/lunch/dinner menu with regular trivia nights, musical bingo, karaoke. They opened up last winter where Java House used to be with owners Nick & Ashley Ozug. It’s in the old Cherry & Webb Building which was central to Fall River’s downtown. They’ve peppered the place with vintage Fall River photographs to pay homage to the building’s history.
Everything is modern and renovated and yet also you get an old school vibes from the photos on the wall which hearken back to earlier times in Fall River. The tall tin ceilings add to the old time charm. You’ll find people popping in throughout the day from the courthouse, city hall and the various nearby businesses.
Nick grew up in the restaurant industry starting at White’s of Westport when he was 15 years old and it shows in his emphasis on customer service. Nick says. “Whatever you want to order whenever you want, we’ll do it for you! You want an omelet at 8:30 pm? You got it. You want a tuna sandwich at 9 am? We’ll make it for you!” That last scenario is not as unlikely as it seems -- people come in on their way to work and pick up their lunches.
Nick whipped us up three popular lunches: turkey club on sourdough with their house made chips; their chicken broccoli alfredo; and their cowboy burger made of a ribeye/chuck mix with cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon and onion rings on brioche buns. Yum!
Next time, we might try the Braga Burger which features ground chorizo on top of cheese. Sure it’s named after the nearby bridge. But also? “We hope you’re gonna brag about it,” says Nick.
Nick says, “We’ve got an eclectic crowd. Some people come in to grab a Danish on their way to work. Some come for the Brewhouse Bomb. Some come just for lunch. Some come for the cocktails.” No matter what you’re in the mood for, the Brewhouse District is ready and waiting for you.

Last post in the series: The fact that this stunning cafe was transformed from a thoroughly neglected building is not the most surprising thing about it. The fact that Christopher's cafe is transforming the area with very deliberate acts of generosity is the true headline. Find out the positive vibes happening in Fall River right here.
