July brings us to the sweet spot of summer on the South Coast and we are here for it! From big bang fireworks to meandering country road rides, there is something for everyone on our 8 Great Things list this month.
1. Fireworks!
July is for fireworks. We suggest you celebrate your Fourth of July by checking them out in Fall River and New Bedford. In Fall River, there’s food trucks and entertainment from 5:00 till the fireworks which start at 9 pm. More on Fall River here. 2. Let the Music Wash Over You
For over 25 years, world class musicians have converged in Marion to put on a music festival like no other. 5 days of free concerts: orchestral, jazz, chamber music. Don’t miss it this year! Mark your calendars to take in at least a couple of shows! Free. July 10-14, Wednesday - Saturday at 7:30 pm. Sunday at 2 pm. More here.
3. Puzzle Away with Musical Chairs
The Drawing Room presents Puzzical Chairs where jigsaw puzzlers complete puzzles before the music ends. Plus, the first 100 participants receive a complimentary popsicle handmade in NB. It takes place on July’s “Kids Rule” Aha! Night with lots of other activities for kids. But this special live music musical chairs is geared towards adults and older kids. Free. July 11 from 5 to 7. 4. A Hunt for Treasures (complete with map)
Time to meander the country roads of the farm coast to see artists in their studios. The settings are as inspiring as the artwork, which represent all forms of art – painting, pottery, sculpture, furniture making and more. Don’t miss it! Free. July 20 and 21. More info here. 5. Arrive Hungry!
On Saturdays through the summer, the North End of New Bedford is transformed into a big street party featuring delicious treats from all over the world, along with entertainment and children's activities Come on down to the weekly Patio de Comidas and you’ll come away feeling like you’ve travelled! Free to attend (food available for purchase). Every Saturday (except July 6 and August 3) through August 24 from 12 to 6. At the Bullard St. and Belleveue Ave. entrance to Riverside Park. More here. 6. Go, Dog, Go!
Well, this is fun! Padanaram hosts its first annual dog show. Come show off your cutie and enjoy an afternoon of entertainment and community fun, with furry friends and various award categories! Free. 1:00 on July 27. Corner of Elm and Bridge Streets, Dartmouth. 7. Go (Shell) Fishing!
Do you know how to quahog? If not, you’re missing out on a fun summertime activity (and dinner!) Come get an intro to the activity with the Buzzards Bay Coalition. 8. Play a New Game
Another game for adults! Over in Onset, they’re welcoming folks to play bocce, beginners welcome. On Monday and Thursdays at 4:30. All supplies provided, just bring your chair! Free. Corner of CW Bishop and Highland Avenues, across from the basketball courts.
