8 Great Things: September on the South Coast

Still sneaky summery, September is the best and brings the things we love: festivals,  lingering beach days we savor and sweatshirts at night. Here's our list of 8 Great Things to capture some great memories this month.

South Coast Harvest Fest Photo Station1. South Coast Harvest Festival

More than just pumpkins, the South Coast Harvest Festival wows with showstopping professional gardens, scarecrow displays, chef demonstrations and more. September 26-28, Westport Fair Grounds. More here. 

Glow Paddle Buzzards Bay

2. Let's Glow!

Everything's better with a little glow-up. Take a paddle around Onset Bay with Buzzards Bay Coalition staff in the first annual Glow-in-the-Dark Paddle! They'll provide the kayak or paddleboard, you deck it out with what you bring to make it glow! Free. Preregistration is required to use OBC equipment. September 8 and 10 (raindates: September 9 and 11). 7:00 - 8:30. More here.

Brews at Button Wood Zoo3. Brews at the Zoo

Sample local breweries, wineries and food trucks while strolling through the zoo at its Taste of Fall event. $55/general ticket buys you unlimited samples from 30+ breweries and a signature souvenir glass. $30/designated driver ticket. September 13 from 4 to 7 pm. More here.

 

4. Tasty Walking Tour

Take an afternoon and pretend you're in Portugal with a walking tour through Fall River with entertaining guides who can give you an inside track on the local Portuguese food scene. $80 includes all food and wine. September 6 and 20 from noon to 3. More here.

 

Mood-Vironment5. Music in a Giant Mood Ring

What mood will the music bring out in you? Find out during September's AHA! when artists perform inside DATMA's Mood-Vironment installation outside of Cork in New Bedford! Free event; Sept. 11 5:30-6:30pm. More here.

Southcoast Anthology6. Let's Talk Waterscapes 

Nature, art, and spirituality wrapped in one event! See imagery and hear words from the newly-released Waterscapes: a SouthCoast Anthology at the local Quaker meetinghouse. Sept. 21 2:00-3:30pm at Allen's Neck Friends Meeting. More here.

RJD Garden

7. Garden Serenade

We love the Rotch-Jones-Duff gardens and we love the New Bedford Symphony. Here's an afternoon where they combine forces to supercharge our day with a musical performance under the 19th century pergola. Bring a blanket and picnic lunch to enjoy on the lawn (there are also seats available). $15. September 21 at 3. 396 County Street, New Bedford. More here.

8. One Last Plein Air

Catch us attempting to let out our inner artist on the intentionally placed Plein Air benches along these stunning sceneries... or more realistically coming out to admire the artworks featured in the show. This program is running through the end of Summer (Sept 21... eek!) More here.
