November is here. Time to hunker down and make the most of these short days! And we've got our 8 top picks to make this a great month!

1. Strike Up the Band!
If you haven’t seen the South Coast Jazz Orchestra yet, prepare to be wowed! Each month, the South Coast Jazz Orchestra entertains crowds at the Bayside Lounge in Fairhaven. Reserved seating for the first hour. After that, it’s first-come, first-served but seats are snapped up quickly. 6:30 to 10 pm. November 3. 125 Sconticut Neck Rd, Fairhaven. More here.
2. Who loves oysters?
We do! The New Bedford Science Café always asks two important questions “Do you love science? Do you love beer?” and each month they feature both at lively sessions. This month, they invite oyster lovers to learn more about Ensuring Healthy Oysters: Best Practices and the Reality of Regulatory Restraints. Free (beer is extra). November 4 from 6 to 8 pm. 908 Purchase Street, New Bedford. More here.
3. Punk Meets Classical
Enjoy First Friday at the Whaling Museum when they throw open the doors for a little party in the museum. This month features the cellist Ian Legge who combines his classical training with punk energy. Light bites and cash bar available. $10 for museum members/$20 for general public. November 7. Doors open at 5. Program starts at 6. More here.
4. Catch a Parade!
There’s still time to catch a parade this year! Wareham really hosts a great one to honor Veteran’s Day with marching bands, performers and lots more. November 11, starting at 10 am at Besse Park and then down Main Street. More here.
5. Books & Art
You know we love a good book-featured activity! So we’re excited to learn that the New Bedford Art Museum is launching a new book club called ArtREADS. Join them to discuss Nothing More of this Land by Joseph Lee which resonates with their current exhibitions. November 18, 6 to 8 pm. More here.
6. Photography on a Stunning Walk
We also love pairing a walk with another activity. This month, the Buzzards Bay Coalition leads a coastal photography workshop at Gooseberry Island. They pair a stunning 1 mile walk through the scenic coastal shrublands and beach with insights and tips from photographer Fran Grenon about how best capture waves, birds and the stunning coastal scenery. November 16 at 9 am. Free but you must register here.
7. Running Wild
Each year, the DNRT organizes an annual trail race at Destruction Brook Woods. Choose your adventure: 10 miles (!!); 5K run or 5K walk. And then get out and enjoy the crisp fall air with others. More here.
8. Singalong & Waffles
Barrett’s Waterfront in Fall River is hosting a Wicked singalong during brunch. We’re intrigued! Themed food and drink, décor, prizes for best costumes and performances. Whether you want to sparkle or watch others sparkle, it seems like THE place to be! 10:45 to 1 on November 15. 1082 Davol Street. Reservations are $5. More here.
