8 Great Things logoBeing more adventurous, spending more time outdoors, and taking up a new hobby are just a few items on our 2025 resolutions list and lucky for us, January on the South Coast offers several opportunities to do so! What do you want to do more of this year?

Start 2025 off on the right foot. Join your local conservation for a New Year's Day hike! Westport Land Trust and DNRT have hikes taking place at 10am. If you’re looking for a later start (we don’t blame you), Wareham Land Trust has a hike at 1pm!

Struggling to get through Moby-Dick on your own? You’re in luck! The New Bedford Whaling Museum is hosting its famous Moby-Dick Marathon starting on January 4th. The reading is interspersed with fun Melville-inspired activities. Think you can last through the 25-hour session? Prizes will be awarded! Learn more.

Come geek out with us and learn about the many benefits of retiring cranberry bogs over a drink. Sara Quintal, Senior Restoration Ecologist of Buzzards Bay Coalition, will lead the conversation at this month’s New Bedford Science Cafe on January 7th! Free to attend. Learn more.

We love a low pressure creative session. Bring your own supplies and connect with artists from all skill levels! This sketchbook club session is led by local artist and illustrator Isiah Botelho. January 17th, 6-8pm. Tickets are $10. Learn more and sign up!

It’s time to round up all your gamer friends! This epic live performance includes songs from some of the most popular games like Super Mario, Zelda, Minecraft and so many more. 6. Make a difference while listening to music

You've heard of Woodstock, but have you heard of Winterstock?! This grassroots festival celebrates music and community while raising funds for scholarships for aspiring music students. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged. January 18th - doors open at 11:30 AM, and the music starts at noon! Learn more here.

If you’re a history buff or a drama lover, this is the play for you! Set in the aftermath of World War II, this timeless play explores the weight of secrets and the American Dream. Arthur Miller’s compelling drama All My Sons, delves into family loyalty, morality, and the consequences of one’s actions. January 23rd at 7:30pm. Tickets start at $25. Learn More

8. Have an ice day!

Embrace winter by getting out on the ice! There's public skating every day of the week (except Saturdays) in New Bedford at Hetland Arena and in Fall River at Driscoll Arena. $6 admission (another $6 if you need to rent skates). Schedules for New Bedford here and for Fall River here.
