We love greeting April, filled as it is with daffodils, tulips and longer days! Here are 8 Great Things to make the most of it!

A bonfire made of grapevines1. Burning of the Canes

Nasketucket Vineyard in Fairhaven kicks off their new season with a cool tradition: the annual burning of the canes, offshoots from the grapevines. Enjoy live music, bonfire, food and of course... wine! April 4 at 7 pm. More here.

The Buzzards Bay Coalition's mascot CW2. Celebrate the Planet

Spirits are always high for the return of warmer weather for the monthly AHA! street party with arts and culture events for all ages popping up throughout downtown. Aha! celebrates the planet this month, kicking off with a parade leaving from Custom House Square at 5:00. The Buzzards Bay Coalition's mascot CW (or Clean Water) will be around for photo ops and general frivolity! Free. 4 to 8 pm. April 9 throughout downtown New Bedford. More here.

The New Bedford Film Festival is back and better than ever! This year, there are four days of screenings, workshops, breakfasts and receptions. Opening night activities are free, various prices for the other activities. More here. 

The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra

4. An Intimate Symphony or a Grand Symphony

Enjoy the New Bedford Symphony in two equally striking settings this month. A smaller affair in the elegant Rotch-Jones-Duff House or the full orchestra in all the grandeur of the renovated Zeiterion Theater. Either way is a great experience. so maybe go to both! 5. Paddle Paddle

Join the Buzzards Bay Coalition for a short guided paddle along the serene upper reaches of the Acushnet River, known as Mill Pond. Free (and kayak is included!). April 18 at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00. The Sawmill, New Bedford. More here.

It's the time of year to get your hands dirty! Head to Tiverton for their fourth annual Spring Garden Expo which features free seeds, soil testing, and advice from URI Master Gardeners, gardening books for sale, as well as representatives from organizations all around New England. Free. April 4 from 11 to 3 pm. More here.

Art Box, the cute little shop in downtown New Bedford, throws a little shindig on the last Friday of every month with cool vibes and live music. And it's BYOB, for a lovely, affordable evening. Free. April 24 at 7 pm. 246 Union Street. More here.
